Help Keep Traffic Moving, Take the "No Rubbernecking Pledge"

Are you tired of sitting in traffic?

Frustrated by delays caused by drivers who slow down to look at traffic incidents?

Wish everyone would just keep moving?

You can do something about it! Take the No Rubbernecking Pledge and encourage others to do so.

It is human nature to want to look at traffic incidents, but the cumulative effect of drivers gaping at traffic scenes is causing all of us to sit in traffic longer. If fewer people looked at incidents on the side of the road, traffic would flow faster, and we would all get to our destinations more quickly.

Not only does rubbernecking cause delays, it is dangerous. A recent study by Virginia Commonwealth University and the Virginia Department of Transportation showed that that rubbernecking is the leading cause of distraction-related car crashes -- it is a distraction more dangerous than talking on or dialing your cell phone.

The Stop Rubbernecking Pledge will only work if many drivers choose to drive rather than look, so do your part to increase participation by showing your commitment to speeding up traffic -- Put a Bumper Sticker on your car so other drivers learn about the Pledge.
